The very basic for the newbies are the popular terms in internet which you can miss up:
World Wide Web ("www"): Given that the www is not new in our decade, but i can doubt that some one still does not clearly understand what exactly www is. Some one would mix-up the two terms "internet" and "www". In the simplest definition, www is the documents which interlinked by hyperlink. Those documents may contain formated text, images, video, sound and any other multimedia content. Those documents are accessible via internet. World Wide Web always be called in short as "web". To read this web, we need an application in computer called "browser".
Internet: that is the infrastructure for you to access to the cloud of linking computers around the world. Up to now, internet is the largest information technology infrastructure in the world which connected billions computers. On the premise, the means for us to connect to the internet is the dial-up modems, cable modems, DSL modems, fiber optic cable and wireless connections such as wifi, gprs, wimax, satelite and etc.
HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP): that is the protocol to tranfering the web over the internet from the service provider to our PC for displaying it's content. In information technology, "protocol" is the term to call a defined set of the rules of a dedicated service.
HyperText Markup Language (HTML): It is not a human language! As mentioned above that the web content may be formated text, images or advanced interactive content, the HTML is a set of rules providing rich content by the markup text. Called it as language because of it is powerful as the computer programming language. To see the html file in rich content format, we need a "browser".
Hyperlink: it is the important element in the HTML document. It is the outlet for user going to another page either in the same site or another site. It is always called "link" in short.
Browser: is an computer software application help us to filter out the markup text and display the markup text in rich content format. At the very begining of the internet, the browser can display text and images, and that time the HTML only support that it is. One of the text browser is still derived to now is Lynx. Now, the browsers supports many features that make the web being enjoyable looks. The competitive browsers are: Internet Explorer (Micrsoft's), Firefox Mozila, Opera, Netscape Navigator, Chrome (Google's)...
